Happy 2017 to you all!
Marty and I just returned home from our fifth annual trip to NYC. As you may remember from years past, we always visit over the New Year.
This years trip was cut a day short (because of an upcoming trip we have planned in the spring) but it was a nice getaway nonetheless.
We mostly stuck to our old ‘haunts’; however, we did add a few new places to our itinerary.
- Diane’s Recommendations:
- Niu Noodle House (West Village): We rang in the New Year at this delicious dim sum/noodle house. We shared several plates of dim sum and for my entree I ordered the Veggie Heaven (veggie broth + mushrooms, fried tofu, bok choy, baby corn, nori with Soba noodles.) If you’re interested in Dim Sum – I highly recommend this place. We just sort of stumbled upon it and we actually prefer it to Nom Wah Tea Parlor.
- Pomodoro Pizza (Nolita): We were craving pizza on New Year’s Day. We walked around the Village for a bit before stumbling upon Pomodoro. Situated a block away from the famous Lombardi Pizza, any place that can stay in business that nearby had to be good in our book. Marty and I split a medium Neapolitan/Brick House Style pizza.
- Creperie NYC (Central Village): Apparently this place was on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. I ordered the ‘Famous’ crepe (Strawberry, Banana, Nutella, Ice Cream, and Whipped Cream.) For something so decadent, I was left 1) without a belly ache and 2) not regretting a single calorie.
- Saigon Shack (Central Village) : We stumbled upon the Saigon Shack a few years back. I’ve decided it will be my mission to find a similar pho in Columbus; I’ve yet to find a comparable bowl. The summer rolls are delicious, too.

I can’t believe those pictures were taken on your phone! So beautiful!
I’m always so surprised by how well iPhone photos can turn out. Natural lighting is best but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with indoor lighting, too. 🙂
Awesome photos! Reminds me I need to get to NY! It’s been since summer for me. Hopefully I can visit my mom in February (as long as there is no snow storm for the drive). Happy New Year!
Yes! You’re so close to NY. You should definitely take a trip in February or this spring. We want to take Charlotte back again soon.
Awesome photos! Makes me want to go to NY now 🙂 I should be going down in February to visit my mom on her break! Happy New Years!
I always love reading your posts and looking at your photographs! Any tips for getting started on taking photos with an iphone? I do have a Nikon, too, that I definitely need to work on using.
Thank you! I’d say to look on Pinterest. You can adjust the lighting by holding the screen, locking the photo and then adjusting the ‘sun’ that appears. Definitely look on Pinterest. There are a ton of little tips 🙂 I have a Canon Rebel but don’t like lugging it around on vacation. I feel like the iPhone can take just as great photos (for the most part.)
