For nearly three years, I’ve been attending a fabulous book club composed of women from my previous church. While I don’t attend that church anymore, it has been a great way to maintain some of my friendships that may have otherwise fizzled out. One of the things I love the most about our book club is the diversity of the monthly selection. Of course there have been some stinkers (a couple of which were my selections – oops) but it has challenged me to read things I wouldn’t have otherwise read.
For the month of August we were to read If I Stay by Gayle Foreman. I actually read this book a couple months ago so it wasn’t as fresh in my mind but one thing I knew for sure was that I didn’t care for it (I know – one of the rare few) and was ready to discuss!
Then Sunday rolls around…
I haven’t been sleeping well lately (hello third trimester) and felt as though catching up on sleep was more important than book club. I called Marty at work to let him know my plans to skip in favor of a nap and, oddly enough, he was insistent that I attend. I asked him why it was so important for me to go and he replied that time with friends was what I needed, not sleep. I began to get frustrated and therefore pressed him to tell me why exactly I needed to go. He finally came out and said he had some work to do around the house and needed me gone while he took care of it.
Okay. I’ll go…
I pulled in about fifteen minutes late and as I came through the front door was ushered into the kitchen area where a book themed baby shower awaited me. Surprise!
I couldn’t believe it! No wonder Marty wanted me to go…
After we ate some delicious food, the ladies took some time to create some ‘babies’ of their own. I had to pick my favorite- can you guess which one I chose?
I’ve known a lot of these ladies for quite some time but I never would’ve expected them to throw me a baby shower! I’m still blown away by their generosity. The theme was perfect for a ‘bookworm’ like myself (and quite fitting considering we’re all in book club together.)
That is so sweet!! Nice cover, Marty!!!
That is all too cute!
oh gosh, this is absolutely precious! love love love. can i send this over to my book club as a hint??? 😉
Yes! You totally should. Afterwards, I was looking up the theme on Pinterest and there is SO much you can do with it 🙂 I hope your book club throws you one like this. I want to see which books they chose!
