Flip Flops, Ice Cream & BBQs: 2013 Summer Bucket List.

Truth: I’m not a huge fan of summer. Actually, it’s my least favorite season. The heat and humidity are just not my thing (plus, being a redhead makes it difficult to go into the sun – even when I’m wearing sunscreen!)

All complaints aside, there are some things I do enjoy: warm weather while loading groceries into your car, patios are fun for people watching, husband is out of school for the summer (yay!), its acceptable to eat ice cream more than once a day week 🙂

I know a lot of you would disagree with me; however there is just nothing like an Ohio fall. Gah! I am so excited that we are getting a tad closer to cooler days, scarfs, harvest decor, jackets, cozy sweaters, apples and, of course, all things pumpkin!!

I could dream of fall all day long but instead I’ve decided to embrace the current season and therefore made a summer bucket list! Without further adieu….

– Visit Yellow Springs, Ohio (A charming village near Dayton, Ohio. Small cafes, mom and pop stores, Young’s Dairy Farm and amazing art. I’ve surprisingly never been so I am long overdue a day trip. Fun fact: Dave Chappelle lives there!) – Go to Rising Park overlook
– Have a picnic with Marty
– Eat Jeni’s Ice Cream in Goodale Park (If you’ve never tried Jeni’s; you’re missing out! Liz knows what I’m talking about 🙂 )

– Drink on a patio
– Enjoy a ‘tropical’ drink by the ocean (I think this should be do-able when we’re in Destin!)
– Eat fresh seafood (Again, I think this is do-able in Destin!)
– Bike the entire Olentangy Trail
Zoombezi Bay
– Go canoeing (We have a canoe, so why not!)

So tell me: what is on your 2013 Summer Bucket List?

  1. I agree with you 100% – Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. 🙂

I am NOT a fan of the heat and humidity in the summer. I like to be able to go outside and not instantly feel sweaty and uncomfortable.

  2. I took my summer vacation early this year – just got back from Hawaii, so my actual summer will not consist of any extended vacations.

But I do look forward to drinking more smoothies, trying new recipes, taking evening walks, weekend road trips, decluttering and watching movies I’ve put on the back burner.

Love your list! Happy Summer to you! 🙂

    1. Hawaii?! I’m definitely jealous. I never used to want to travel there but after some blogger’s posted their trip reviews – I’m DYING to go. What a relaxing, luxurious, beautiful place to be 🙂

I look forward to drinking more smoothies too! I might even make one tonight! Happy Summer to you too 😀

  3. I love summer, though I do agree that the humidity can be a bit much. I have curly hair, so unless I go natural my hair and I are at war.

    1. My hair is the same way. It rarely seems worth it to wear my hair straight in the summer! Humidity is even a pain with my curly hair because I usually let my hair air-dry and it ends up taking hours!

  4. I seriously feel the same way about summer. I thought I was the only person who doesn’t really like summer. I’m not even sure why, it’s just never been a favorite of mine. Fall on the other hand is my favorite. All things pumpkin please 😉

  5. I love your bucket lists Di 🙂 It’s the little things! I want to have Whole Foods smoothies with friends on the beach

  6. This is a great bucket list! So many great summery things 🙂

My bucket list is pretty extensive for this summer – I should document this on my blog to keep myself accountable.

  7. I am SO with you on the fall thoughts, it’s hands down the best season ever and I AM SO excited for it this year. I wish it were fall all year long. Summer is OK, I don’t hate it or love it necessarily, but I will hopefully find lots of fun things to do this summer in the warm weather!

    1. YAY! I’m glad someone else agrees 🙂 I wish it were fall all year round too! I was thinking that maybe I wouldn’t appreciate it as much if it was all year round but, eh, I doubt it!

  8. Ah yes. I would have to say that fall (while it is still warm enough to not wear coats) is my favorite season. Summer is great because it’s so different, but I’m with you on the humidity!

Great list. That fresh seafood one sounds like a superb idea! I’ve never had fresh seafood but I bet it’s so different than one’s from stores or restaurants 🙂

  9. Fall is my favorite season but fall but my second favorite is probably summer so ill be happy with the weather for a long time to come 🙂 my summer bucket list includes eating lots of watermellon and getting in lots of time outside.

    1. Are there any places in Ohio that you recommend visiting in the summer? Even in Cinci? My brother-in-law and aunt both live in Cincinnati so I’m sure we’ll be making a few trips down there this summer. 😀

  10. I was just talking about how much Iove fall, but need to at least live in the moment and enjoy summer a little bit!

I just had Jeni’s last weekend and it had been way too long. So good.

As for my bucket list — I want to go to the zoo a lot, walk some local trails, hit up some festivals, and drink lots if summery drinks!
