The Greatest Spectacle in Racing: Indy Weekend 2013.

After a bit of a blogging break, I am back with a recap of my Memorial Day weekend.

For the fifth consecutive year, I headed to Indianapolis for my family’s tradition of attending the Indianapolis 500 race. My mom (and her siblings) grew up in Indy and the race was a huge part of their childhood – so we continue to go today!

The night before the race is always a fun one. All of us get dressed up and head into downtown Indy for dinner at Mo’s Steakhouse. This is always my favorite part of the weekend! The food has never been anything less than spectacular! In previous years, we’ve even spotted some D list celebrities at Mo’s (Jared the Subway Guy, Christina Millian) but this year I didn’t spot anyone! Oh well, maybe next year 😀

Race day was pretty much the same as last year; however, the weather was SO much cooler! I can honestly say that I preferred it this way. Hot weather makes for a miserable walk to the track and an even more miserable five hours in the scorching sun! Thank you clouds!

Race Highlights: Boston Marathon racers were able to finish their race

There’s not much left to say about the weekend other than it ended too soon.

  1. You look so pretty in all these pictures. I’ve never been to the races. I think I’m afraid of seeing something bad.

  2. Sounds like you had a blast! 🙂 What a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend. And this is totally random, but I love your bangs! I’ve wanted to get bangs for forever now, but always back out at the last minute haha 😉

  3. What a fun event to attend. My in-laws are HUGE racing fans, and would be completely jealous if they knew you went to Indy!

p.s. All of you ladies are beautiful!!!

  4. Fun!! My sister’s boyfriend goes every year with his family and loves it. I’ve never been, but I have been to the Brickyard 400 at the end of July, and I almost passed out because it was so hot! I bet it was nice to have cooler weather this year!

Where is that ice cream from? It looks good!

    1. The ice cream is from ‘Sub Zero’ – you HAVE to try it! It is in downtown Indy and they use liquid nitrogen to freeze the ice cream. You can get frozen almond milk, soy milk, low-fat milk, custard, yogurt, or cream, then you get to pick a flavor and then a mix-in! It’s really cool to watch 🙂 Let me know if you end up going! Here is the website:

  5. Your outfit is adorable! I have never been to a race, but my dad watches every week and he and my mom have gone. My mom said they are a ton more fun in person!

  6. AH how fun!! This would be such a great tradition. I am loving all your photos and you look so gawwjuss all dolled up in your dress!! Glad you had a great weekend.

    1. It really is a fun tradition. I was so surprised that I loved it when I first went. And thanks for the compliments 🙂 It’s fun to dress up every now and then (I am pretty much in yoga pants/running clothes throughout the week. Church is really the only time I try to look extra nice (or on date nights!!) 🙂
