I LOVE SAN FRANCISCO! Sorry but I had to begin with that.
Seriously though, I absolutely love that city. I love how everything was so easily accessible and biker friendly. The food was great, the people were great, the parks were amazing and the houses were just charming!
We arrived in San Francisco around 4PM, checked into our room and headed out for a bike ride into the city. Our first stop was 826 Valencia. This store/tutor center was co-founded by Dave Eggers (one of Marty’s favorite authors) and his wonderful team.
A quick description of 826 Valencia: “a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages six to eighteen with their writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our work is based on the understanding that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success and that great leaps in learning can happen when trained tutors work one-on-one with students.”
Check out the website for more details surrounding the store. It’s a really neat story! 🙂
Anyways, after our stop at 826 we walked along Valencia to different stores and bars. We had some amazing oysters, sushi and clams during a happy hour then sang some karaoke before heading to a Thai restaurant for dinner. Did I mention we ate A LOT on our trip? 🙂
The next morning, we got up early and rode bikes to Arizmendi Bakery for some fresh baked scones (a friend of mine had been interning in San Fran and highly recommended this place; we were SO glad that she did because the baked goods were to die for!) We took our scones and some coffee (from the Beanery) to the Golden Gate State Park. The morning was one for the books. So beautiful. Perfect weather. Romantic. We even stumbled upon a Shakespeare Garden where we spent some time writing in our road-trip journal.
How is it that the only picture we took together (in San Fran) was on my phone?
Makes me sad but I have high hopes that we’ll one day to return!
Next stop: Wine Country (Petaluma & Sonoma!)
