Over the last several months I’d been seeing something called ‘Foodie Penpals’ on various blogs that I frequent. I decided to look into what exactly it was so I headed over to The Lean Green Bean to learn more about it. Lindsey (form TLGB) describes the program in more detail:
Explanation of the program:
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
I was intrigued and decided to go ahead and participate. I’m glad I did because the experience ended up being so much fun 🙂 I ended up receiving some great foods from my ‘Foodie Penpal’ Linz from It’z Linz.
Included in the mix: Justin’s Almond Butter, Trader Joe’s Roasted Wasabi Seaweed Snack, Trader Joe’s Honey Apple Butter, Trader Joe’s Spicy Black Bean Dip, Roasted Coconut, Trader Joe’s Pecan Praline Granola, and Zico Coconut Water. I loved that the majority of the food was from Trader Joe’s; (besides Jungle Jim’s) it is definitely my favorite grocery store 🙂
Can I just say that- although the Wasabi Seaweed Snacks sound strange- they were so delicious! I’m a sucker when it comes to anything with wasabi so if you feel the same way, run out and get these!!
Linz was a great ‘Foodie Penpal’ to have for my first experience – she even included a nice little card 🙂
This experience was highly worthwhile and I’ll most definitely participate again. It’s a great way to connect with fellow food/health/wellness bloggers. If you haven’t signed up yet, check it out!
