Little Life Updates: January 2014.

It’s time for a ‘little life updates’ post :) I completely forgot about these posts in November and December so I have a bit of catching up to do with all of you…

- Chang-ing up my hair. My hair was in DIRE need of a cut (my last one hadn’t been since the beginning of March) so I decided to go in for a few inches off. One appointment turned into three appointments as the first stylist didn’t really do much and left my hair looking quite boring. A week later, the second stylist (who was supposed to fix the first cut) used the wrong scissors, chopped awkward layers and took another two inches off leaving me, once again, less than impressed. I was really embarrassed to complain a second time but I only get two haircuts a year and I wanted to be happy with the cut. I ended up booking an appointment with my normal stylist to see if she could clean up the style and, I’m happy to report, she did! I would’ve just booked an appointment with her to begin with but she had nothing available around the time I made my first appointment. Takeaway: take the time and wait for your normal stylist. (I only have a comparison picture from the first cut but you can see the new length in my New York pictures!)

Hair Change

- Celebrat-ing Cameron’s fourth birthday. I can’t believe I’ve been a nanny for nearly a year and half! There are days that I’m ready to move on and other days that I can’t imagine parting ways from this family. Celebration days are especially fun!

Cameron Birthday

- Read-ing, read-ing and more read-ing. Can you believe that I completed my challenge of reading fifty-two books last year? I actually ended the year with fifty-eight total! (Find me on Goodreads!) As for the books I read in January:

Books I Enjoyed:

Loved

Books that were just okay:

Okay

What have you been up to this month? Do you have any book suggestions for 2014?

Your hair looks great! I read a TON and really fly through books. Have you read Drop Dead Healthy? It’s a fun one that taught me a lot.

One of my goals this year is to read more :) I am in the middle of a couple books right now. One is ‘The Traveler’s Gift’ by Andy Andrews. He is one of my favorite authors. Have a wonderful weekend :)

Your hair looks lovely!! I just chopped a few inches off as well and it feels so much healthier. Regarding books I’m reading the Goldfinch right now and LOVING it!!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 6, 2014

Thank you Kate! :) Also, I have the Goldfinch on reserve at the library right now. Can’t wait! Glad you’re enjoying it :)

Your hair looks great! I am always so afraid to cut my hair because I like it long but it also looks so much better without all the dead weight.

I am currently reading Cutting For Stone, have you? If not, you should!

      February 6, 2014

Thanks Tara :) I’m always afraid to cut my hair too (and this was exactly why) but it has already grown out about an inch or so since the cut. YAY.

Also – I have heard great things about that book. I’ll have to add it to my list! Thanks for the recommendation.

Wait a second! You didn’t get a hair cut since March 2013?! Holy Moly! That’s crazy – your hair cut looks fabulous though :) I love it!

January was actually a whirlwind for me but my guess is that February will be no different!

I love your hair! You have no idea how impossible my hair is. We’re talking afro status here.

You’re hair looks beautiful. Even with the cut it’s still long! Also, I feel like I’m just noticing your eyebrows. They’re amazing!! Do you fill them in or are they natural? I spend so much time trying to create brows like yours.

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thank you! :) I actually dye my eyebrows because they’d be nonexistent if I didn’t. Ha. There are a few sections where the hair isn’t as thick so I’ll fill it in a bit with brow pencil. I wish I was able to get them waxed more often but I just don’t have the money to do so.

      • Holly J
        February 6, 2014

Don’t! They are perfect as they are. Seriously. Don’t let a waxist near them.

Your hair looks so cute!!! I’ve been reading a lot more now, since downloading Oyster on my phone!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

I’ve heard great things about Oyster! I think I may have to check it out (though I do love the library system called Overdrive!)

It seems like I’ve read a ton of good books already this year, and, of course, I can’t think of many off the top of my head! I just finished up Sycamore Row last week, and I really enjoyed it. It’s the new John Grisham, and it’s a (sort-of) sequel to A Time To Kill. Worth a read if you’re a Grisham fan!

      February 4, 2014

I know what you mean. People will ask me what I suggest for them to read and I can never recall anything without looking at my Goodreads list :)

As if you weren’t already beautiful, your hair cut looks great on you! Love the shorter look. I think you should add some bangs to it as well <3

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thanks lady! I like the shorter look too. I will NEVER let my hair get that long and boring again. It just doesn’t fit my face shape. Also, I just started growing my bangs out again but I do miss them from time to time :(

Your hair looks gorgeous!! My stylist always books me for my next appt when I’m in because I’m a procrastinator, and she books up!! It works!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thanks Corrie :) I’m a procrastinator too. I need to think about my haircut at least a month in advance next time!

    January 31, 2014

Blech, I’m definitely not a fan of anything Ernest Hemingway (Except The Paris Wife, which was all about his life, and I actually really enjoyed that). Good books that I’ve recently read – Gone Girl, The Fault in Our Stars, The Book Thief, and I’m currently reading “A Dog’s Purpose” (<–hilarious and totally makes me wish I knew what my dog was thinking)

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

I still need to read The Book Thief! It has been on my list or quite some time now. What did you think? Should I read it next?

  18. Erin @ The Almond Eater
    January 31, 2014

Haha your haircut sounds like something I would do–book it with a random and hope for the best. Even though it took 3 tries, I’m glad it turned out!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thanks Erin! I’m glad it ended up working out in the end but NEVER AGAIN!

Yay for new hair!! You are so lovely!! And a birthday..with cupcakes..YAHOO!

    • di @ life of di.

Aw – thanks Brittany :) I forgot how much you loved cupcakes! These were delicious (but not vegan :( )

Girllllll, I love the hair! Looks fabulous! It’s so fun and refreshing to change up your hair. I get the same way…eventually you just NEED to make a change!

Ah, books! :) I just started a new one. I just love a good book!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thank you! :) Yes, it definitely is nice to mix things up from time to time. I really want to go shorter but I know that I’ll wish for long hair if I do. Ponytails are a daily look for me :)

I really enjoyed In Our Time but I guess I would label it as “just okay” in the big scheme of books! :-) Right now I’m reading The Letter by Marie Tillman and it is amazing!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

I agree with you. I enjoyed it but when compared to other books it was ‘just okay’ :) I’ll have to look up ‘The Letter’ on Goodreads. I’ve never heard of it!

Great hair cut! I rarely get my hair cut but I need to do it more often. I never realize how bad it is until I start looking at pictures!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thank you Katie! :) I hadn’t realized how much I needed one until I started looking at pictures either. Pictures can be really helpful sometimes!

I haven’t had my hair cut in December 2012!!! I am not going to get it cut until after the wedding :) Maybe just a trim of the ends but that’s it! Geez I am impressed by the amount of books you’ve read. I haven’t read a book in a few months!

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

I had only planned on keeping my hair long until my sisters wedding but decided to keep it a bit longer. I want to chop it more but am always fearful that I’ll miss the longer length!

Your experience is exactly why I hate getting my haircut. It looks great though! Glad it worked out in the end. Added you on Goodreads! LOVE how many bloggers are on there.. it’s really expanding my “to read” list.

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

I’m not a huge fan of haircuts either. I hate sitting there and trying to make small talk. I’d prefer just to relax and enjoy the quiet. Ha. I saw that you added me! I’ll have to follow along with what you’re reading and get some more book suggestions! :)

loving the hair! hair appointments always give me such anxiety, I worry they will just chop it all off

    • di @ life of di.
      February 4, 2014

Thanks Alex :) I always worry about that too. I really should’ve stuck with my normal stylist! EEK

Your hair looks amazing!!! I have been considering getting a few inches taken off – but I am such a wimp I am not too sure that it will actually happen.

Of The Moment.

"To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us." -Timothy Keller
