I can’t believe our trip to New York has already come and gone. We left last Sunday morning and arrived back into Columbus late Friday night. We spent a few days in the city last year (again – right after Christmas); however, we actually stayed for New Years Eve this time.

I can’t tell you how much I love New York City. Such wonderful food and I love the fast pace lifestyle. I also love public transit. I wish there was a subway system in Columbus!!

Diane’s Recommendations:

  • Nom Wah Tea Parlor : We wanted to find an authentic Chinese restaurant while in Chinatown and this was just the place. Delicious dim sum (though not the best place if you’re looking for a healthier meal.)
  • Saigon Shack : Best bowl of Pho I’ve ever had. Period. Fast paced restaurant and not the best service; however, the food was totally worth it.
  • Ninth Ward : Our favorite bar. We’ve traveled around to so many places and this still ranks at the top of our list.
  • Hale & HeartyΒ : Although this is more of a chain ‘fast food’ restaurant; I really enjoyed it. Marty and I were looking to warm up with a bowl of soup when we stumbled upon a Hale & Hearty restaurant. I had a bowl of the Lentil Chilli and it kept me full for several hours. I highly recommend this place if you’re 1) in the mood for a delicious soup (SO MANY CHOICES) and 2) next a healthier ‘fast food’ choice.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!!

  1. I love your pictures so much Di! Especially the cat wall, the dogs, the pretzels and the one of you and Marty. Thanks for the recommendations too – we’re planning to visit New York on our honeymoon in June so I’ve jotted them down!

    1. So exciting! When are you going to be there? I have more suggestions if you’re interested. I actually think we may be back in NYC in June. I know you will be in your honeymoon but, would love to grab a drink with you and your hubby (and Marty) if you’re willing. Again, I know you will be on your honeymoon and we will probably be there at different times but that would be so fun to meet up!

  2. that was a gorgeous photo dump. and your title…yes. perfection. new york is ALWAYS a good idea. i always tell people to head to levain bakery when they’re in nyc. just completely unreal.

    1. Thanks Carrie! I didn’t make it to Levain Bakery but I’ll add to my list if we go this summer (if not, we’ll be back next December/January and I’ll check it out then!) Thanks for the suggestion. :)

    1. Thank you! I forgot that I never posted about it. I ended up having to go back three times to fix it. The first cut was boring and straight so I went back and the second lady butchered my hair (used the wrong shears and cut it awkwardly.) I decided to get it fixed by the girl that usually does my hair (should’ve just went to her in the first place) and she refunded my second cut, did her cut for free and gave me $60 in free products. I made sure to tip her well :)

Anyways, all in all I’m not in love with my new cut (it’s a bit shorter than I wanted) but it looks far better now than it did for that one week and a half! Oh haircuts…

    1. Marty and I talked about taking kiddos into the city; it wouldn’t be impossible but we definitely wouldn’t be able to walk the 8-10 miles a day we were doing. Definitely try and get there with Jordan or your sisters. Such a fun trip. :)

  3. This post has me craving another adventure!! I have never been to NY, but I must visit someday!! These photos are wonderful! I especially love that one of Marty in front of the moving trains!

  4. I’ve never been to NYC but my sisters and I talk about going all the time. It’s definitely on my bucket list! I also want to go for a run in Central Park. And go to Serendipity for frozen hot chocolate even though the wait for that is outrageous. It’d be worth it though ;)

    1. We were going to go to Serendipity this time but figured the time of year (everyone craves hot chocolate in frigid temps) and holiday would make it more packed than ever. It’s definitely a great place to go with sisters/mom. I did a few times in high school and loved the girl trip!!

  5. Looks like you had an amazing time! My husband Chris and I just went to NYC in November for basically the first time (we’d both done the HS tour when we were like 15, but that hardly counts). What an amazing city! There are so many fun things to do!! Now if only I could convince him that we should live there…

    1. I feel the same way. I want to live there so badly (especially since we don’t have kids yet and I’m not in any specific career right now.) He said it’d be nice but just isn’t in the cards for us (realistically speaking.) πŸ˜” I can’t wait to go back though!!
