I just realized that I never finished my honeymoon series :) Talk about being a little behind.

Without further adue…

Next stop: Portland, Oregon (AKA Stumptown)

Our time spent in Portland was short lived; however, we packed in as much as we could within a twenty-four hour period. No sooner than we arrived did we throw our bags into our room and proceed to hop on our bikes and head into the city. As we were wondering around Portland, we stumbled upon a long line outside of a brick building. We weren’t quite sure what all the commotion was for until we looked up and saw this sign:

Apparently Voodoo Doughnut is both well known and highly recognized as having some of the best doughnuts in the world. You had us at doughnut. Although neither of us are big doughnut eaters – we couldn’t pass up this opportunity. We hopped in line and enjoyed the twenty minute wait while people watching and breathing in the heavenly aroma.

When we entered the shop we couldn’t make up our minds fast enough so we decided to split one of the specialty ’Voodoo Doll’ doughnuts (a raised yeast doughnut filled with raspberry jelly topped with chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake.)

There aren’t words to describe the goodness of these doughnuts. All I’ll say is if you’re ever in Portland – make sure to add Voodoo Doughnut to your list of stops.

After our sweet treat, we decided to grab a cup of coffee. Thanks to Dana for her great suggestion of Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Great environment, great company, yet even greater company.

After an hour of coffee drinking and magazine reading, we hopped back on our bikes and took in some more of the city.

We then spent the rest of our evening at Powell’s Book Store – reading, drinking (yet) more coffee and just relaxing. It’s funny to think that this was one of  the only instances of really settling down and taking a break on our entire trip. Everything had been ‘go, go, go’ so it was nice to take a break and enjoy one of our favorite pastimes together.

Have you ever been to Portland? If so, what was your favorite thing to do/see there? We definitely plan on returning one day…
