I just realized that I never finished my honeymoon series
Talk about being a little behind.
Without further adue…
Next stop: Portland, Oregon (AKA Stumptown)
Our time spent in Portland was short lived; however, we packed in as much as we could within a twenty-four hour period. No sooner than we arrived did we throw our bags into our room and proceed to hop on our bikes and head into the city. As we were wondering around Portland, we stumbled upon a long line outside of a brick building. We weren’t quite sure what all the commotion was for until we looked up and saw this sign:

Apparently Voodoo Doughnut is both well known and highly recognized as having some of the best doughnuts in the world. You had us at doughnut. Although neither of us are big doughnut eaters – we couldn’t pass up this opportunity. We hopped in line and enjoyed the twenty minute wait while people watching and breathing in the heavenly aroma.

When we entered the shop we couldn’t make up our minds fast enough so we decided to split one of the specialty ’Voodoo Doll’ doughnuts (a raised yeast doughnut filled with raspberry jelly topped with chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake.)

There aren’t words to describe the goodness of these doughnuts. All I’ll say is if you’re ever in Portland – make sure to add Voodoo Doughnut to your list of stops.
After our sweet treat, we decided to grab a cup of coffee. Thanks to Dana for her great suggestion of Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Great environment, great company, yet even greater company.

After an hour of coffee drinking and magazine reading, we hopped back on our bikes and took in some more of the city.

We then spent the rest of our evening at Powell’s Book Store – reading, drinking (yet) more coffee and just relaxing. It’s funny to think that this was one of the only instances of really settling down and taking a break on our entire trip. Everything had been ‘go, go, go’ so it was nice to take a break and enjoy one of our favorite pastimes together.

Have you ever been to Portland? If so, what was your favorite thing to do/see there? We definitely plan on returning one day…
Next stop: Port Angeles & Glacier National Park.
Previous stops: Redwood Forrest, Wine Country, San Francisco, Ojai, Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, San Antonio, New Orleans & Nashville.
I’ve never been to Portland, but I have a friend from high school who lives there now. She seems to really like it!
If you get the chance, I highly recommend you go! Maybe you could even stay with her for free!
I know! I looked into it last year, but the flight is what’s so expensive!
oop I mean *saw
I say this place on Food Network a while ago! Yum!:)
I really wanna fly to the states right now just so I can have one of those donuts!
Mmmmm I can only PRAY that I have donuts on my honeymoon! Love the pictures. So pretty
Voodoo Donuts are legendary! I’ve never tried one and like you, I’m not into donuts. But I’d stop buy and try one if I was there. I’ve never been to Portland, but have always wanted to, especially after watching Portlandia.
That sounds like so much fun!!!! I’ve always wanted to visit Portland!
You’d love it. Such a unique city – has something for everyone!
I’ve definitely seen Voodoo Doughnut on the Travel Channel! That place is famous!
That’s so funny. I’ll have to keep my eye out for it on the Travel Channel and Food Network.
I love Portland! I flew in there a few years ago and only got to spend a day so I’d love to go back. I’ve seen Voodoo Doughnuts on a ton of foodie travel shows. It sounds yummy!
It was definitely delicious. I was looking at the website today and there are a few others that I’d love to try (ones that you’d probably only be able to buy at Voodoo) so I do hope to get back there one day!
Omg, that doughnut.
I visited Portland in March 2009 and had a great time. I’d love to go back some day soon. We went to Stumptown and Powells, but missed out on Voodoo, unfortunately!
2/3 isn’t bad
I feel like we barely made a dent in the city. I really hope to get back there one day!
Ohh my gosh…I officially want to be your best friend! I LOVE PORTLAND. My boyfriend and I have been there twice and the first time we went, Powells was on our list and so was Voo Doo Doughnuts. We also visited some vegan restaurants tha were amazing. What a GREAT idea to bring your bikes! What better way to experience a city (maybe running for me too) but a bike is a great idea!! You two are adorable! My boyfriend and I want to go back JUST to try the stumptown coffee too.!
