For the fourth consecutive year, I participated in my family’s tradition of attending the Indianapolis 500. My mom (and her siblings) grew up in Indianapolis and the race was a huge part of their childhood. My pre-conceived notions of the race weren’t great (I associated it with NASCAR and people that get too drunk for their own good). I was wrong.
I went to my first race in 2009 and really enjoyed it. The weekend as a whole is just really enjoyable. I must say that racing on television is nothing like racing in real life.

The night before the race is always a fun one. All of us get dressed up and head into downtown Indy for dinner at Mo’s Steakhouse. In years past, I’ve tried the filet and salmon; however, I decided to have the Ahi Tuna Tartar and Spicy Tuna Roll this year. SO GOOD!

Back to race day…
After the race, we all head back to my uncle’s house for a BBQ (oops – no pictures from that evening.)
The following morning we enjoy brunch before the drive back to Columbus. I think it’s funny that the entire weekend is centered upon meals. This year we ate at a cute little bistro called Mesh.

Oh! I almost forgot to mention. We ran into Barry Weis from the show Storage Wars on Sunday night. We were at the Crowne Plaza hotel bar when Weis came strolling in. I actually had no idea who he was until my cousin asked us to take a picture with her. He was definitely a character (to say the least). The picture plus a few more highlights from the weekend (via Instagram) are below…
